Why We Give
As Christians, our giving should always be guided by what God has in mind for our finances. Great Blessings always result from the following:
- The way that we use our material possessions is an important part of living in the will of God. Acts 2-6
- We need to set aside a percentage of our income each time we get paid in order to be able to give systematically to God's work. 1 Corinthians 16:2
- God wants us to give material possessions out of hearts that reflect sincere appreciation for his gift of salvation. 2 Corinthians 8:8-9
- We need to organize and plan our giving in a systematic way so that we can give generously and not grudgingly. 2 Corinthians 9:5
- We need to focus on godliness and contentment rather than on riches that may result in discontentment. 1 Timothy 6:6-10 and 6:17-18
- We need to be especially careful as we live in an affluent society to be on guard against self-deception and rationalization. Revelation 3:17-18
100% of the financial needs of running Timbers Community Church depend on the generousity of each and every person who calls Timbers their church.
Giving is breaking or releasing the control that money has over you. When you give, you put yourself in a position to receive.
"Seven Secret Keys to Giving" will unlock the door of faith in this area of your life if you give reverently, give systematically, give expectantly, give cheerfully, give accordingly, give eternally and give faithfully.
Malachi 3:10 says "Bring all the tithes (10%) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this. If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it."
2 Corinthians 9:6-7 says "He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully, will also reap bountifully. So, let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver."
Luke 6:38 says, "Give and it will be given to you. A good measure pressed down, shaken together and running over. For with the same measure you use, it will be measured to you."
Leviticus 27:30 says "A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord."
For over 2000 years, the Kingdom of God has advanced on this earth primarily through committed giving by sincere believers who hold to the Biblical Principle of Tithing (giving 10% of one's income to the work of God through your local church) God blesses those who bless others.
